Matthew Libera (M.M. Performance, B.M. Performance & Music Education) is a multifaceted individual with diverse interests in music, computers, web design, photography, sports, and more.
Musically, Libera's clarinet playing has been described as "professional-grade...smooth, liquid, and colorful." He brings life into the music he plays, and highlights the technical ability and the dynamic range of the clarinet to its fullest. He has appeared professionally with a number of professional orchestras, including the Western Piedmont Symphony and the Salisbury Symphony. His teachers have included Dr. Richard Faria, Michael Galván, and Dr. Kelly Burke. Libera has recently taken an interest in studying, performing, and writing electronic and electroacoustic music, and has had the opportunity to study these genres with Dr. Mark Engebretson during his time at UNC-Greensboro.
Libera is active as a web designer as well, and what started as recreation in high school became a business in 2008; Libera Web Design was born, and has been designing websites for a steadily growing clientele ever since. His interest in computer programming began with two introductory C++ courses in high school, and he has been seeking ways to integrate programming and music. One of these ways is with Max/MSP, with which many of his first compositions emerged.
Among Libera's other interests are recording, photography, and sports - especially St. Louis Cardinals baseball. In his free time, he and his wife Rebecca enjoy hiking, discovering obscure board / card games, and exploring music for bassoon and clarinet.
